Knowing our Enemy:Satan
I had a discussion with crusade friends on Friday 20/02. I had "gate-crashed" another DG group because my DG leader had something on last minute. So I joined Zeke, Qi Heng and Jeremy for their DG.
The scope of the discussion was our spiritual warfare with Satan.
Who then is this Satan? Let us take a little time to examine this Enemy :P
according to the bible's descriptions:
- Satan is apparently God's highest created angel and commanded the legion of angels before He fell. Ezekiel 28:12-14 God gave him power and authority
- Lucifer: The name appears to be derived from the same root as the Latin word lux meaning light (the light-bringer or son of the morning star)
- He became arrogant in his beauty and status and decided he wanted to sit on a throne above that of God (Isaiah 14:13-14; Ezekiel 28:15; 1 Timothy 3:6). He wanted to be God.
- He is an accuser (Revelation 12:10)
- He is a tempter (Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:5),
- He is a deceiver (Genesis 3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:3).
Why does he do so? Satan's fate is almost predestined to failure according to the bible:(Revelation 20:10). But Satan wanted to be like God. He "loves" us too and wants more people to be with him. He does so by accusing, tempting and deceiving us (trying all ways to steer us from God).
Suppose Satan came to you with a present. Would he put on the label: "welcome dear, I love you as much as God does. I want you to enjoy eternal death with me in Hell. I welcome you to a life of misery, pain and confusion I have planned for you."
Upon seeing this? would anyone take up the offer? What we do know is Satan tempts, accuses and deceives us. He makes things seem good. Remember how he convinced Eve in the garden of Eden that the fruit of Knowledge was good. He made it seem "good" to take up the offer. This has been an ongoing battle for our hearts and mind.
And Satan works through little things: little addictions ( who did not start out gambling, smoking in small amounts till it became an addiction?), little quarrels with people (exploited by Satan), doubts and fears in God (makes us stumble in our faith). If he can convince us of the things he wants us to do, he has gained a foothold in our lives.
The only way to rebuke Satan is knowing God and His words, as how Jesus resisted:
1) And after He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." - Matthew 4:2-3 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" - Matthew 4:4
2) Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God throw yourself down. For it is written, 'He will give His angels charge concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone." - Matthew 4:5-6
Deceptively, Satan tried inciting Jesus to test the scripture. Jesus addressed the real issue by quoting Deuteronomy 6:16. Jesus said to him, "On the other hand it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" - Matthew 4:7
3) Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory. And he said to Him, "All these things will I give you if you fall down and worship me." - Matthew 4:8-9 Then Jesus said to him, "Begone, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only. (Matthew 4:10)" Again, Jesus quoted Moses; this time from Deuteronomy 6:13.
Jesus has conquered Death with salvation and he stands with us in trying times of temptations of the devil: For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted (Hebrews 2:18). For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).
Let us pray and be strong in the Word. Ultimately, establishing a strong relationship in our everyday walk is crucial in helping us to find our directions in life.

What is love?

I do agree with the above and I personally felt a brand new type of love
4 years ago and still continuing to feel it today:
LOVE of GOD
The bible describes this "love" as AGAPE love. In Greek of the New Testament bible, this meant Selfless Love. There are other forms of love recorded within the bible: Storge (love of kin/family), Phileo (affectionate or brotherly love), Eros (love between opposite sexes).
For this post, I will put the focus on AGAPE love, used to describe God's love for us.
Some may immediately ask a question I asked years before:
"Okay.. Jesus Christ died for all man but that was 2,000plus years ago. But I cant see, feel, touch God? Even if He exists, He must seem a so distant figure. How do I know God loves me? Or even more Why does he love me? Where was He when I suffered? Was He there?"
Think of a father and a child: did the child ever do anything for the father to love him in the 1st place? The father loves the child for he is his child & similarly God loves you for who you are. But... how do I know God loves me? To understand this, lets look at this from the point of sin.
In accordance to the bible, all man has sinned and by this sin (it really means to fall short of a standard of being righteous in eyes of GOD) if you think have not... (wah... so serious.. I never kill anyone, commit huge crime before.... blah blah)
have you:
- been angry at someone? hated someone?
- told lies for your own benefits/interests?
- lusted after someone fantasizing in your mind?
- greed after something that is not yours
**I'm not trying to tell you how "holy" I am.. I admit that I'm guilty of the above.**
By sin, ALL man is condemned to hell. Yet, God gave us Jesus Christ, being perfect to die for all these wrong doings so we may be able to repair the relationship with God. God gave us a chance not to choose between heaven and hell... because by right, all man Will go to hell.. He gave us a choice so we may choose heaven and experience His Love for us. And we never did anything to deserve it yet we have the choice now to accept this AGAPE Love of his.
Yes, many may say they don't need God in their lives. But given a choice now, are you willing to let God work his Love into your life?
Personally I have felt God's love working into my life... If I had looked from 5 years ago.. I would never have expected the change accepting His love would bring about into my life.. a little bit of background:
- I was never on good terms with my mother especially, and I was taught how to Love. And see her love for me
- I never really felt the need for friends in the past. I was selfish. Now I learn to treasure my friends and fellow brothers and sisters
- I have grown in situations I thought I will never be able to make through.
- I was proud of having some things in life I had which I thought others did not. Now I learn all these are not as important in life as life itself along with people around you.
And now I ask myself Do I love God? And Love the people around me? Is it easy to love even someone you hate?
Hope this post has been helpful to you. May everyday be a day of Love for us all, be it valentines' or not, be it in times of troubles or joy. May God's love touch your hearts too.

14. There was no 13 and there are 2 14(s). Okay. I'm lame. <---- ppl told me so. >< 15. I'm afraid of heights... the taller you are the more afraid you are... its true. D:< 16. I can't swim well cause I don't know how to float... U see.. normal pool is at 1.8m.. and I'm 1.83 m... so just stand and breathe.. :D 17. I have gone in to ladies' before... (Oi u all dirty minded! dat was when I was a kiddo and my mum brought me in -.-) 18. I have never donated blood b4... sorry cos I'm underweight >< 19. I can't stand girls who act cute LOLS :D well.. but if its my future girlfriend/wife den.. 20. I have never celebrated my birthdays at home cos My family is quite poor.. a bowl of egg vermicill is my mum's heart-warming way of saying ilu. :D thanks mummy 21. I have worked 12-hours shifts in a Motorola fone factory before... believe me don't get a Motorola fone.. D: 22. There are a lot of things I wish to tell you but I can't :D *muahaha* its true! 23. I feel It is a big step forward... for previous years, I have given up family gatherings for 1723 fellowship... but its time to strike a balance in between the 2... I shall not neglect my family and I believe God is leading me this way

Chanced upon this poster entitled "God hath not promised"...
"Psalms 74:17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter. "
Our God is a God of summer and winter... he has not promised us a smooth sailing life.. free of troubles and tribulations.. Yet, we cannot fully grasp the meaning to the 'winter' if there's no joy to the 'summer'.
Will I appreciate what I have now if I have not lost some things I hold dear? Will I take my life for granted that I will wake up to a fresh new tomorrow? Will I grumble at having no care from family members when I see people who are kin-less?
What then is our life lesson? What does God want me to learn? Can I stand firm in Him?
